Behind the lens
Hi, I’m Birdee
I’m a fine art photographer who specializes in maternity, motherhood, and embodiment-focused portraiture. My work is less about posing and more about presence. Creating images that feel calm, intimate, and true to this season of your life.
I believe pregnancy is not something to rush through or “document quickly,” but a profound threshold… a time worthy of being witnessed with care, beauty, and intention. My sessions are designed to feel spacious and grounding, allowing you to soften, breathe, and be held by the experience as much as the images themselves.
Whether we photograph in water, in nature, or in a quiet, light-filled space, the focus is always the same: honoring your body, your strength, and the becoming that’s already underway.
These photographs are meant to be lived with; on your walls, in your home, and in your memory, long after this moment has passed.
WHO THIS IS FOR
This maternity experience is for you if you are seeking…
1. To Honor This Threshold
You see pregnancy as more than a milestone to document. You feel it as a profound transition. You want to honor this moment with intention, presence, and care.
2. To Feel Seen, Not Performed
You’re not looking for stiff poses or forced smiles. You want to feel calm, supported, and guided. Held in a way that allows your natural strength and softness to emerge.
3. To Create Something Timeless
You’re drawn to fine art imagery. Photographs that feel poetic, quiet, and enduring. Images meant to live on your walls, or in a keepsake album, not just on your phone.
4. To Slow Down and Be With Yourself
You value spaciousness. You’re open to an experience that invites you to breathe, soften, and connect with your body during this season of becoming.
5. To Work With Someone You Trust
You’re sensitive to energy, beauty, and intention. You appreciate a photographer who leads gently, sees deeply, and approaches maternity with reverence rather than rush.
FAQ
-
I’m based in Southern California and primarily photograph maternity sessions in the Los Angeles area, including Topanga, Malibu, and surrounding locations. Sessions can take place in nature, in water, or in a private, light-filled space depending on what feels most aligned. I’m also open to travel for special projects, feel free to inquire.
-
Most maternity sessions take place between 28–34 weeks, when your belly is a nice size and you’re still feeling relatively comfortable. That said, every pregnancy is different, and we’ll choose timing based on how you’re feeling in your body.
-
That’s completely okay — you don’t need to have a location in mind. For underwater sessions, I arrange a private, heated pool that’s reserved specifically for your shoot, so the experience feels calm, safe, and unrushed.
If you’re drawn to photographing in nature, we’ll talk through your vision together. I’ll help guide us to a location that feels remote, private, and aligned, always with comfort, safety, and discretion in mind.
You don’t need to figure out the logistics. I take care of that part so you can focus on being present in the experience.
-
That’s completely okay — and very common. My approach is gentle and guided, with an emphasis on presence rather than posing. You don’t need to know what to do or how to move. I’ll lead you slowly, creating space for you to relax and feel supported throughout the session.
-
We’ll discuss styling together ahead of time. Flowing fabrics, simple silhouettes, and soft textures tend to photograph beautifully. You’re welcome to bring multiple options, and I’ll help guide what works best for the setting and light. Comfort always comes first.
-
Sessions are intentionally unhurried. While most experiences last 1.5–3 hours, we move at your pace and take breaks as needed. There’s no rush — spaciousness is part of the experience.
-
Not at all. Submersions are brief and always followed by rest. You are never pushed beyond your comfort level, and it’s perfectly okay to keep your face partially submerged or above water if that feels better.
-
You can expect your final, fully edited images within 4-6 weeks after the shoot. Each image is carefully refined with attention to tone, color, and detail. Prints and wall art typically arrive within a few weeks after ordering.
-
If we’re shooting outdoors and conditions aren’t ideal, we’ll reschedule. I want the experience — and the images — to feel calm and beautiful, not stressful. We’ll always prioritize what feels best for you.
-
You can reach out directly through the contact page to begin the conversation. From there, we’ll talk through timing, location, and what you’re envisioning to see if it’s the right fit.

On the day of the shoot, I will handle all the bookings, location permits and technical aspects. Ensure your payment is complete before the session and come ready to release and enjoy the experience.
An Heirloom in the Making
Each maternity session is an invitation to create a piece of art — something meant to live with you long after this moment has passed.
Your images are crafted with the intention of becoming heirlooms: fine art photographs that hold the memory of this season and can be returned to again and again. Many clients choose to transform their images into framed prints or wall art, creating a lasting presence in their home, a quiet reminder of strength, softness, and becoming.
Sessions include a guided experience and the opportunity to curate a collection that feels right for you. Digital images, fine art prints, and custom wall pieces are all available, allowing you to choose what you truly love.
Artwork, heirloom albums, and tailored options available. I’m always happy to talk through possibilities and help you envision how your images might live in your space.
